Brooklyn based artist to show Animal Portraits at Chaiwalla, Salisbury, CT.
Salisbury, Connecticut, August 18, 2019 An artist from the 19th century who specialized in realistically portraying animals was known as an animalier. Painters from this period rendered works that were realistic in the depiction of the animal, and enhanced the portraits with elaborate backgrounds. Brooklyn based artist, Jenny Belin, has stripped away the extraneous background to depict beloved pets, barnyard animals, and feathered fowl, revealing their essence and inner life.
Ms. Belin, who weekends in Sharon, has been painting portraits of pets professionally for fifteen years. She holds a BFA from Skidmore College and began soon after graduation drawing fashion illustrations for the New Yorker and the NY Daily News. The muse that lead her to painting pets was Edye, Ms. Belin’s tortoiseshell cat, named for Edye Broad, (the driving force behind the Broad Museum in LA).
A brief showing of her work, before it travels, will be shown at Chaiwalla, 1 Main Street, Salisbury on August 31, 5 – 7, and by appointment on September, 1.
